About the Site
The site was first launched in 1998 in an
effort to address the severe lack of sites dealing with highlighting
the work of the fire services in Ireland.
From that first site which had six pages and some
horrible colours (we learn by our mistakes!) the site has evolved
as l learned a bit more about web design and aquired more information
through research and contributions from fire and ambulance personnel
around the country.
The site will continue to evolve when l get the
time and articles to add to it.Should you wish to help or contribute
in any way l would be more than delighted as it will be of benefit
to everyone.
Ideally l would love to have up to date information
on items such as union issues, technical information on new hazards,
new techniques and of course the usual information on our service
around the country. Hopefully with your help we can keep the site
up to date with the changes out there.
Over the years l have had visitors from all over the world visit
Dublin after first making contact through the site and long may
that continue.
About me
l joined the Dublin Fire Brigade in February 1994 after being in
the Civil Defence Auxiliary Fire Service since 1989. Stationed first
in our HQ for 7 years both in the old HQ which opened in 1907 and
then the new HQ which opened in 1996. During my time in Tara Street
HQ l rotated from firefighting to ambulance to control room duties.
While there l expanded my duties by first becoming a light driver
on the ambulance and then a heavy driver with responsibility for
driving and operating a fire appliance.
l was elected a safety representative in 1999 and spent 4 1/2 years
doing that in addition to my fire / ambulance duties.
In 2001 l moved to the suburbs on the southside of the city to serve
in a single pump, single ambulance station.
The area our station now protects seems to be one big building site
due to all the construction work so we are constanly on inspection
to familiarise ourselves with all the new developments from the
Luas (light Rail) to the new M50 motorway extension.
As for the future well that has yet to be written!
