Service The
ambulance service in Ireland is currently run by 8 separate Health
Boards with ambulances being dispatched from bases and hsopitals around
the country. Dublin Fire Brigade operates an ambulance service in
Dublin city and county on behalf of the Eastern Regional Health Authority
(formerly called a health board)
Crews on ambulances are called Paramedics (formerly Emergency Medical
Technicians) and operate under the protocols of the Pre-Hospital Emergency
Care Committee (PHECC)

An Garda Siochana (Police) An Garda Siochana are the Republic of Ireland
national police force.
The contry is divided up into six regions each of which is commanded
by a Regional Assistant Commisioner. Each region is further sub
divided into Districts commanded by a Cheif Superintendent assisted
by a nuber of Inspectors.There are just over 700 Stations in Ireland
at present.
The Irish Mountain Rescue Assocaition is made
up of volunteers who are called out to the Irish Mountains when the
need arises.
They consist of a wide range of people from Doctors to firefighters
to people with an interest in the countryside. They are trained in
various outdoor rescue areas from technical rope rescue, medical intervention,
and helicopter assited rescues.
The Irish Cave Rescue Organisation (ICRO)
is a self help organisation specialising in cave rescue who have
recognised the need for expertise in such situations and who will
attend, manage and carry out rescues at the request of the police.
Throughout Ireland cave rescue is the responsibility
of the police forces, the Garda Síochána in the Republic
